Ford Recalls Fiesta Subcompact For Air Bag Problem

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Ford is recalling more than 154,000 Fiesta subcompacts to fix a problem with the side air bags.

Ford says that if a side impact collision occurs when the front passenger seat is empty, the side air bag won't inflate to protect rear-seat passengers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it doesn't know of any crashes or injuries linked to the problem.

The recall affects Ford Fiestas from the 2011 through 2013 model years. The cars were built in Mexico from Nov. 3, 2009 to Sept. 21, 2012.

Ford will notify owners and dealers will reprogram the vehicle's software free of charge so that it no longer suppresses the passenger side curtain air bag when the front passenger seat is empty.

Owners with questions can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. For more information, visit www.owner.ford.com.
