Detroit Gas Station Bandits Strike Again, 6 Times In 1 Hour

DETROIT (WWJ) - It looks like a group of thieves targeting Detroit gas stations has struck again.

A 24-hour summary of Detroit crimes shows six more cases of robberies or attempted robberies of gas stations early Wednesday morning.

In each case, three men wearing masks and dressed in all dark clothing walked into the businesses flashing weapons. The six cases all happened within a one hour time frame.

#1 -- 5:30 a.m. in the 18400 block of Lodge Service Drive

  • Police say the three suspects attempted to gain entry, but the 48-year-old store employee produced a weapon and the suspects fled.

#2 -- 5:50 a.m. in the 6300 block of Fenkell

  • Police say the three suspects entered the location and demanded money before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

#3 -- 6:07 a.m. at the intersection of Plymouth and Hubbell

  • Police say the three suspects entered the location and demanded money before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

#4 -- 6:15 a.m. in the 11600 block of Schaefer

  • Police say the three suspects entered the location and demanded money, but a 30-year-old employee pushed the alarm button and the suspects escaped in a Ford Explorer.

#5 -- 6:29 a.m. in the 5800 block of Tireman

  • Police say the three suspects entered the location and demanded money before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

#6 -- 6:31 a.m. at the intersection of Michigan and Livernois

  • Police say the three suspects entered the location and demanded money before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robberies occurred just hours after Detroit police put out an alert about a group of robbers that had been involved in as many as 11 robberies and an attempted robbery of gas stations over the past two weeks. Between three and five young men were involved in each case.

No one was hurt in any of the robberies. It wasn't immediately clear how much money the suspects were able to get away with.

The suspects are only described as a black males in their 20's, wearing dark clothing and black masks that cover the lower half of their faces.
