Man Charged For Alleged Rape, Death Threats Against Candice Miller

PONTIAC (WWJ) - A Pontiac man is facing charges, accused of threatening Congresswoman Candice Miller and her family.

A six-page criminal complaint filed in federal court on Tuesday accuses 39-year-old Robby Harris of mailing a threatening communication.

The threatening letter claimed Miller and her family members, including young children, would be raped and sodomized by multiple people and then killed if Miller did not send $1 million.

An investigation started after the letter was received at Miller's Shelby Township office on October 10.  Authorities said Harris use a female neighbor's name when signing the letter, but the investigation revealed that he was the culprit.

This isn't the first time Harris has been accused of sending threats. He was convicted on similar charges in 1998.

The same neighbor told police Harris suffers from schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder.  She turned over several others letters, allegedly written by Harris, also with her return address, that were addressed to several other Michigan politicians as well as local schools and the White House.

Harris has asked for a court-appointed lawyer.
