Man Gets 5 Months In Jail For Selling Asian Carp

MIDLAND (AP) - An Arkansas man has been sentenced to jail and fined for selling live Asian carp in Michigan.

David Shane Costner of Harrisburg, Ark., pleaded guilty last month to a dozen felony charges.

During a hearing Thursday in Midland County Circuit Court, Judge Jonathan Lauderbach sentenced Costner to spend five months in jail and ordered him to pay about $3,700 in fines and court costs.

The Michigan attorney general's office says the 42-year-old Costner sold two grass carp this year in Midland to undercover officers.

Investigators say he had been driving around the southern part of the state selling the carp from store parking lots for use in ponds, where they eat nuisance plants.

Asian carp are an invasive species and it's illegal to possess them in Michigan.
