Right Up To The Deadline, Voters Pick Up And Cast Absentee Ballots

ROYAL OAK/DETROIT (WWJ) - In Royal Oak, absentee voters picking up and dropping off ballots have the City Clerk's office buzzing with activity.

Dozens of voters lined the first floor clerks office and the office staff said it's been busy all day.

Sarah Hieser had her ballot in hand completed and she was racing to drop it off because she'll be working all day on election day.

Hieser said having the extra time to fill out the ballot at home worked for her. "I researched probably more than I've ever done, sat at the computer and researched everybody."

Most people standing in line told WWJ that they shared the feeling of not being under pressure and glad to have the opportunity to vote early.

While traffic outside election headquarters on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit was equally busy, possibly foreshadowing what it will look like on election day Tuesday.

Many voters like Markus Davis are voting absentee ballots.

"It was nice, it was interesting, different. It was a long wait but luckily I have patience today ..." said Davis.

"I found that it's a bit crowded, which is great news but we'd rather wait in that type of line or an actual precinct. So we are going to get up extra early before leaving town tomorrow," said another voter.
