Work Underway On Hines Drive For Wayne County Lightfest 2012

WESTLAND (WWJ) - It's definitely cold enough to be winter, and now there's another sign that Christmas is right around the corner: the Wayne County Lightfest is just one week away.

Crews have already started setting up the Midwest's longest drive-through holiday light display and major progress will be made on Thursday and Friday.

Officials with the Wayne County Roads Division are alerting the public that Hines Drive will be closed from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive on Nov. 8-9, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for Lightfest set-up.

Lightfest is one of the most popular seasonal activities in the metro Detroit area, with over four-and-a-half miles of giant animated displays and nearly a million lights along Hines Drive.

The grand opening of Lightfest is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m., when the power will be switched on and the displays come to life with illumination.

After that, Lightfest will be open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily through Dec. 31, except for Christmas Day when it will be closed.

The entrance to Lightfest is on Hines Drive at Merriman Road, between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Avenue in Westland. Admission is $5 per car.
