1.5 Million Lights Brighten Rochester For Christmas Season

ROCHESTER (WWJ) - Downtown Rochester is all aglow with Christmas lights. It's the seventh year for the big bright light show, which features more than 1.5 million shining holiday lights along Main Street.

Valerie Keuten owns the Plain and Fancy gift shop and says the lights draw customers.

"Age or impact on ... the market out there, they'll come in for the lights, go out for dinner," said Keuten. "Fortunately, I'm next to a restaurant and they'll head back in the store and they'll buy."

Keuten also has the Christmas Shop in her store. The light display runs in downtown Rochester through January 6th, and most stores are open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Robin Miller of Warren loves the event and the free carriage rides. "I just love the way it looks, I love Christmas time and all the lights in every form, it's just so beautiful," she said.

Legends of Time owner Dan DeClark likes to see the lights go on in the downtown area.

"It helps the entire season, people will come down tomorrow night, and the next night and the next night to see the lights," DeClark said.
