Volunteers Of America Hosts Adopting Families Event
BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) -When most people think of the holidays, they think of family, food and fun. However, for some not so fortunate, the holiday season can bring with it a painful reminder of what they lack.
Volunteers of America is gearing up to host their 20th annual adopting families fvent. It's called "Holidays of Hope," through which faithful volunteer sponsors sign up to adopt needy families so that those less fortunate can have a Christmas filled with joy.
WWJ's Chrystal Knight spoke with Emilie Rohrbach, with Volunteers of America
"Those sponsors are individuals, they are corporations, small businesses and sometimes groups of employees that get together and say instead of a Christmas party, let's get together and pool our money and let's adopt a family," Rohrbach said.
The Holidays of Hope event takes place on Friday, Dec. 7 at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.
