Heaping Helping Of Chicken Donated To Gleaners Food Bank

PLYMOUTH (WWJ) - A local market and popular poultry company team up again this year to help people in need this Holiday Season.

Hiller's Market in Plymouth and Miller Amish Country Poultry Friday donated 5,200 pounds of chicken to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeast Michigan.

Hiller's Vice President Justin Hiller says this is their fifth year helping to make the donation possible.

"It's really important giving back to the community and so this is about being socially responsible," said Hiller. "I've been working together with Miller Poultry and we do this every year ... we help facilitate their largest protein donation of the year.

Miller Poultry Manager Lynn Nebb said the company believes in giving back.

"It is actually a Mennonite tradition that has been carried on with the owner of the company and he is second generation and we feel very strongly about community," said Nebb.

Gleaners gives food to food panties, soup kitchens and shelters in southeastern Michigan and they expect to see a spike in demand as the schools close for the holiday.
