Police On Manhunt After Chase Ends In Crash, Suspects Take Off

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are searching for two men who fled from a stolen pickup truck that crashed in Detroit after a high-speed chase Wednesday morning.

WWJ's Bill Szumanski was over the scene in the WWJ 950 Chopper,  headed to an accident scene on I-75 when he spotted police activity on the city's southwest side.

"They were in the middle of a high-speed chase through some of the neighborhoods here on the southwest side, chasing a red Dodge pickup, a full size pickup," said Szumanski.

Police say the incident started out with a stolen vehicle report in Wyandotte. Officers started to pursue the vehicle when it was spotted in Lincoln Park, with officers from Ecorse joining in on the chase.

The high-speed chase continued into southwest Detroit, where the stolen truck crashed near Pleasant and Ethel streets, taking out a utility pole.

"The driver ended up wrecking on the railroad tracks, but both of the occupants of that vehicle took off, one of them up the tracks, one of the down the tracks, and police are looking for them now," said Szumanski.

Police are now canvassing the area, searching for the suspects who may have ducked into a nearby house.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
