IT In The D Gets New Partners, Extends Program
DETROIT -- The founders of the IT in the D tech training program have formalized their commitment to the program and added a new partner with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding this week at the Chase Tower in Detroit.
The signing also established the Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) as the fiscal agency for IT in the D, allowing the program to apply for grants and other funding, including those requiring 501 c(3) status.
Currently in its second session, IT in the D is partnering with 15 Michigan universities for a 10-week program to give 26 students and IT professionals the skills and experience needed to succeed in the highly competitive IT job market in Detroit.
The new partner is the Workforce Intelligence Network. WIN is a coalition of eight local community colleges, seven MichiganWorks agencies and economic development agencies working with local employers to identify and respond to employment needs. Its educational members are Macomb, Monroe County, Mott, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne County community colleges, as well as Schoolcraft College. Its workforce members are Career Alliance, Detroit Workforce Development Department, Southeast Michigan Community Alliance, Washtenaw County Employment, Training and Community Services, and the MichiganWorks offices in Livingston, Macomb, St. Clair and Oakland counties.
Representatives from Quicken Loans, Compuware Ventures, GalaxE.Solutions, Fathead and Marketing Associates gathered at the Qube, 635 Woodward Ave, Detroit, to sign the MoU.
The signing of the MoU occurred in conjunction with the first public meeting of the Southeast Michigan Technology Council, a group of nearly 40 IT companies formed earlier this year to promote and grow IT in the state.
