Math Prof. Held As Suspect In Wife's Death In Pittsfield Township

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Pittsfield Township man identified as a former Eastern Michigan University math lecturer was arraigned Sunday, facing murder charges in connection with his wife's death.

Jean Pierre Trias, 44, faces one count of open murder and police say he will remain in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail pending a preliminary examination.

The body of Katherine Kellogg Porter, 53, was found Friday evening at the couple's home by police who were conducting a welfare check.

Police declined to say how Katherine Porter was killed, but they did say the couple was alone at the home when the crime allegedly occurred.

This is the first homicide of 2013 in Washtenaw County.
