Investigation Into Cause Of Ultralight Plane Crash Launched

NILES, Mich. (AP) - Federal authorities have launched a probe into a small plane crash in southwestern Michigan that claimed the life of the pilot.

Authorities said the ultralight, single-seat plane crashed Saturday afternoon in a wooded area of Niles Township and 50-year-old Christopher McKenna from Elkhart, Ind., died.

A pilot flying in tandem with the victim in another plane says they were supposed to be landing when the other plane crashed. The surviving pilot alerted authorities.

Police say the two planes were flying for a short time and the pilots were testing an antenna.
