Jonathan Weid: Difference Maker In The Community

PLYMOUTH (WWJ) - Jonathan Weid is an accidental hero. He fell into his play by-play job as an announcer for the Miracle Baseball League of Plymouth when he was asked to sit in for one game; nearly two years ago. Now he says he'll never give it up:

"These are kids that are never going to get the opportunity to play with their able-bodied friends - whether it be in an organized league or even in their own backyard," Weid said.

Another volunteer says parents are amazed at his commentary when a child is up to bat.

Weid says he takes inspiration from when he was a kid and played with his friends in the neighborhood.

"It was always Game 7 of the World Series - bottom of the ninth inning and trying to get that last hit," said Weid. "I try to make these kids feel like every time they are up to bat - that that is what they are going to experience."

Weid does have radio experience--but nothing prepared him for this.

"I think it's magical every Saturday in the Spring and Fall it's really something to see."
