Houghton Marketing Firm Seeks Keweenaw's Ugliest Web Site For Freshening

HOUGHTON -- You may have seen those TV shows where they seek out the ugliest kitchen or bathroom for remodeling.

Well, now, a marketing firm in the western Upper Peninsula is seeking the ugliest Web site in what it calls "Keweenaw country" -- comprised of Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties in the western U.P. -- for a free update.

Anyone is welcome to submit as many ugly business websites as they wish -- the uglier the better -- by emailing the website link to ugliestwebsite@marketingdepartmentinc.com. The business with the ugliest Website will receive a free Website makeover from Houghton-based Marketing Department Inc. A free Facebook makeover will be awarded to the business with the second-ugliest Web site.

"One tenet of our five-year vision to is to positively impact the local economy," said Marketing Department principal and chief marketing officer Karyn Olsson. "This Ugly Website Contest is one way we can support a small business by enhancing their online presence."

Submissions will be narrowed down to the top five ugliest Web sites, judged by the design and marketing professionals at Marketing Department.

The first two people to submit the two sites that we choose for Grand Prize and Runner Up will receive a $25 gift card to either the Library Restaurant in Houghton or Habaneros Fresh Mexican Kitchen in Hancock.
