Booze-Filled Paczki Selling Like Hotcakes

HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) - So you think pazcki are just a little too healthy?  How about adding some vodka?  That's what they're been up to this Fat Tuesday at Small's Bar in Hamtramck. General Manager Mike Mouyianis said they chill vodka and pair it up with matching flavors to make the "Paczki Bomb."

"Some other people have tried, but they use awful combinations, with like Jager in a prune pazcki or something -- and that just sounds horrible to me. Everything we do tastes good," said  Mouyianis.

Mouyianis told WWJ Newsradio's Sandra McNeil they make Paczki Bombs with raspberry and blueberry vodka as well, but vanilla is the best.

He said the idea came to him two years ago when he and another employee were working on Pazcki Day.

"We're bartending and, you know, we get pazckis and we put them out for people to eat -- and it's a good day drinking day. And we were bored and we said, 'Well, I wonder how it'd be with pouring a little bit of booze in these things?'"

The Paczki Bombs sell for $3 each and are made to order.

"I put a straw in and make a little air pocket and it holds a whole shot of vodka, in a half-size pazcki. We give it to them with the straw, so they can either suck it out with the straw or just bite into it," Mouyianis said.

The Paczki Bombs sold out by 5 p.m. last year, so this year they bought 10 dozen more.
