Man Sentenced In Sexual Assault Of Disabled Girl

SAGINAW (AP) - A 73-year-old Midland County man has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a disabled woman beginning when she was 9 years old.

MLive.com reports that a Saginaw County Circuit Court judge gave Robert Potts a minimum of four years and nine months in prison.

The woman is now 25. She has told authorities that the sexual assaults began in 1995.

Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer Barnes said Thursday that her office will oppose any efforts by Potts to get paroled.

Potts pleaded guilty Jan. 8 to three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped four counts of first-degree and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, as well as child pornography charges.
