Hang Out With Bear Cubs At The Zoo? New Bill Would Like To Make That Happen

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Zoo officials are worried about a bill making its way through the Michigan Legislature that would allow people visiting zoos to touch and pose for pictures with bear cubs.

The Senate has approved the bill, which now goes to the House. It allows patrons to get up close and personal with cubs under nine months old or weighing less than 90 pounds.

Detroit Zoo CEO Ron Kagan says bears are dangerous no matter their age or size. The Michigan Association of Zoos and Aquariums also opposes the measure.
