Police: Drunk Driver Was 4 Times Legal Limit

HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) - Police say a drunk driver arrested after attempting to go through a "Do Not Enter" security gate at Selfridge Air National Guard Base had a blood alcohol level that was four times the legal limit.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office said Selfridge security guards stopped the 29-year-old man and detained him when he tried to enter the air base, located in Harrison Township.

Police say the man smelled of intoxicants and refused to take a Breathalyzer test. He was arrested and taken to the Macomb County jail where he was given a formal Breathalyzer test. Police say the man registered a blood alcohol level of .31, which is nearly four times Michigan's legal limit of .08.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was booked on charges of operating under the influence -- second offense, and driving while license suspended -- second offense.
