Men Face Charges After Making Drunken 'Prank' Drowning Call

SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) - Two Macomb County men are in hot water after making a drunken phone call to police about a drowning.

Shelby Township Police Chief Roland Woelkers said they received a call from the men around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday that a third person had fallen into the water and drowned near 23 Mile and Ryan roads.

Woelkers said dive teams responded to the area and spent hours searching for the person who allegedly drowned, but found nothing.

Upon further investigation, Woelkers said it turns out the men were drunk and apparently thought it would be funny to make a crank call to police.

Woelkers said the two men, who were identified only as Macomb County residents, are now facing several charges, including making a false police report and obstructing justice.
