10-Year-Old Detroit Boy Left Home Alone With Baby

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit mother could face child neglect charges after her two kids were found home alone.

Police were called Thursday morning  to a house on Pinehurst Street near Meyers and West Chicago Road after a 10-year-old dialed 911 and went to a next door seeking help.

Carrying his 10-mouth-old sibling, the frightened child said someone was in his house.

The children weren't hurt and were taken to a nearby police station.

The mother, who was alarmed to come home to find her kids were gone, told WWJ Newsradio 950's Vickie Thomas she'd left them in the care of her sister.

"Are you serious?" asked the mother, when Thomas told her the children had been taken by police.

A next door a neighbor said his car was broken into earlier in the day, but it was not immediately confirmed if there really was a home invasion.  The mother said some electronics were missing but police said there was no sign of forced entry. However, a window was left open.

Police have been talking to the children's father who will take custody of the kids as they try to get to the bottom of what happened.
