Auntie Anne's Offers Free Dip Following Saucy Scuffle

TROY (WWJ) - It was the food fight that made the headlines around the country -- and now pretzel shop Auntie Anne's is trying to repair its image by offering up free dip.

According to police, an employee at the Oakland Mall store threw nacho cheese sauce at a customer during an argument last week. A young woman allegedly then climbed over the counter and a piece of equipment was broken when a scuffle ensued.

Spokesperson Heather Neary said they're still investigating, but called it "an isolated incident."

Neary told WWJ's Sandra McNeil the employee has been suspended indefinitely.

"Of course we were disappointed to learn about what happened last Saturday when the guest received the wrong dip and the Auntie Anne's employee didn't follow our proper guest relations procedures," Neary said.  "It was very unfortunate. And, ultimately, an altercation took place that we regret greatly."

The dip will be offered for free at locations in metro Detroit -- but you still have to buy the pretzel.

In a YouTube video, Auntie Anne's President and COO Bill Dunn said he has visited the Troy location to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.
