Caputo: 3 Reasons Wednesday Was Not A Good Day For Detroit Sports

By: Pat Caputo

1. Bullpen by committee is a recipe for disaster. We saw that Wednesday as the Tigers blew a 2-1 lead in the ninth inning and dropped a 3-2 decision to the Minnesota Twins. The Tigers have a terrific team otherwise. It makes no sense all the eggs were placed in the basket of rookie closer Bruce Rondon, who couldn't make the club out of spring training. The Tigers are stuck now. There are rarely trades made early in the season. Perhaps Rondon will suddenly find command of the baseball and get to the major leagues sooner instead of later. The Tigers really need that to transpire.

2. The Red Wings didn't make a trade at the deadline. The Red Wings need a goal scorer. Badly. They didn't get one. Not good news.

3. With a chance to cut the Celtics' lead to one and going in for a breakaway layup, Detroit guard Brandon Knight placed the ball on the other side of rim. It was a truly awful shot - one of the ages. The Pistons ended up losing 98-93.
