Spaghetti Sauce Bank Robber Arrested

CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - Police have arrested a woman they say pretended two cans of spaghetti sauce were a bomb when she robbed a Macomb County bank.

Ophelia Amelia Neal faces bank robbery and explosives charges in Saturday's robbery at a Fifth Third Bank branch at 15 Mile Road and Harper Ave. in Clinton Township.

Officials say Neal is parole absconder, with previous convictions for assault and marijuana charges.

She was caught Friday afternoon in a home in Mount Clemens and taken to the Macomb County Jail.

Police said Neal told bank employees she had a bomb in her bag and demanded money. They say she took an undisclosed amount of money and escaped in a car with a man behind the wheel.

A bomb squad later scanned the bag and found the sauce.

Neal could face life in prison if convicted.
