Detroit Woman Tackled To Ground, Mauled By Dogs On Porch

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit woman is hospitalized after being attacked by two dogs as she relaxed on her front porch on a sunny day.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon near Conant and East Davison streets on the city's east side. The woman was sitting on her porch when the dogs reportedly tackled her to the ground and mauled her.

According to reports, neighbors did what they could to help as the woman's son tried unsuccessfully to fight off the animals.

As luck would have it, an off-duty Detroit police officer just happened to be driving by and saw what was going on. The officer reportedly jumped out of his vehicle and fired shots at both dogs, killing one instantly. The other dog ran off to a vacant school building nearby, where neighbors say the dogs came from.

The woman, identified in reports as 64-year-old Jessie Clarke, was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries to her face, head and arms. She was last reported in critical condition.

Reports say at least one of the dogs was a pit bull.
