Woman Run Over, Dragged By SUV

NEW BALTIMORE (WWJ) - A 21-year-old Macomb County woman is recovering in the hospital after she was reportedly run over and dragged by an SUV.

Police say the incident happened around 1:45 a.m. Thursday in the 35000 block of 23 Mile Road, near Altman Road, in New Baltimore. Officers dispatched on a hit-and-run call arrived at the scene and found the woman severely injured. She was rushed to McLaren Macomb Hospital where she was last listed in serious but stable condition.

According to police, the woman was run over and dragged by a dark-colored four-door SUV, driven by a white male in his early 20's. A white female passenger in her late teens was also said to be in the SUV.

The SUV fled the scene prior to the officers arrival, reportedly headed westbound on 23 Mile Road toward I-94. Police say the suspect vehicle may have minor passenger side damage from dragging and running over the victim.

Police interviewed multiple witnesses at the scene and say they're pursing active leads on this case. Investigators believe, based on information given by witnesses, that illegal narcotic involvement may be a factor regarding this incident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or have any information is asked to contact New Baltimore police at 586-725-2181.

Police said one unrelated arrest was made due to an outstanding arrest warrant for dangerous drugs.

Identities of those involved were not released.
