It's 'Last Call At The Conspiracy Lounge' In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Can you imagine a lounge where historical icons like John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. converse in the afterlife? A new play opens to the public in Detroit which features famous people in history chatting over a drink.

It's called "Last Call at the Conspiracy Lounge" -- written and directed by Detroit native Dwight Patillo.

WWJ's Chrystal Knight spoke with Patillo about the play's message and motive.

"I wanted to revisit with people that were dear to me and taken away abruptly," said Patillo. "So I think what it is is an attempt at closure for people that miss these kinds of heroes."

Damon W. Perry who plays Abraham Lincoln, talked about how he prepared for the role. "I got the courage to go down and do a reading and ... nailed it!" he said.

"And, you know, I'd already seen the movie 'Lincoln.'  I did not watch it again because I didn't want to be too influenced. I did watch a lot Lincoln footage," Perry said.

"Last Call at the Conspiracy Lounge" opens April 19 at 1515 Broadway in Detroit. (See the show flier).
