Fans Buzzing About Playoff Bound Red Wings

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - The Detroit Red Wings have clinched a spot in the NHL playoffs for the 22nd year in a row and fans around town are buzzing about the feat.

Fans at the Kirby's Coney Island on Telegraph are happy they'll have more hockey to cheer for in this shortened season.

Robert Vandt of Southfield marvels at the Red Wings playoff streak of 22 years.

"Pretty astonishing, as a matter of fact, I heard about it on the news and as a matter of fact I think they had to win their last game to get in," said Vandt. "So, I think they are fabulous."

Mike Benton of Garden City tells WWJ that he's happy the Wings are playoff bound.

"It's awesome, it's a pretty good record," said Benton. "They are playing well together now, I think they'll have a good chance. I'm just hoping that we'll get to the Blackhawks."

Benton has been working in Chicago recently and says Blackhawk fans have been giving him grief about the Red Wings - so he's hoping for some sporting revenge.

John Melech of Dearborn is thrilled: "Great, absolutely great. I'd like to see them take it all, hopefully they will."

Casey Hamlet of South Lyon is confident that the Wings will do well against first round opponent Anaheim Ducks in Anaheim on Tuesday night.

Vince Cordero of Livonia thinks the Wings will do well in the playoffs.
"If they can stay healthy they can do good, I think that was their problem with the season is not being healthy," said Cordero.

Cordero says the Ducks are tough-- but the Wings will just have to be up for the game.
