Man Fatally Shot In Clinton Township Park

CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A young man was shot to death this weekend at a Macomb County park.

Police said it happened shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday near the corner of Quinn and Harper, not far from I-94 on Clinton Township's east side.  That's east of Gratiot Ave. at Prince Drewry Park near Robbie Parker Elementary School.

The 24-year-old victim was rushed by family members to McLaren Macomb hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detective Capt. Richard Maierle said the department received several 911 calls about shots fired. He said witnesses reported some kind of argument on  a basketball court led up to the shooting, but further details surrounding the incident were still unclear.

The shooter fled the scene and remained at large Monday morning.

The victim had a single gunshot wound. He name was not immediately released.

There were many people at the park at the time of the shooting and police are hoping to talk with anyone who was there. Those with information are asked to call the Clinton Township Police Department at 586-493-7840.

This incident comes after two teens were shot in Mount Clemens, near Clemens and Court streets, earlier in the weekend. Both victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from the hospital. A semi-automatic pistol was recovered and three suspects were arrested on unrelated charges.
