Michigan Native Stars In "Catch Me If You Can"

DETROIT (WWJ) - You can catch a Michigan actor on stage at Detroit's Fisher Theatre, starring in the musical "Catch Me If You Can."

Dominic Fortuna, who grew up in the Detroit area  and still lives in Northern Michigan, plays the part of Frank Abagnale, Senior, the dad of  a conman who passed himself off as a pilot, doctor and lawyer before he was even 21. That character was played by Leonardo DeCaprio in the film version.

Did Fortuna think the movie would make a good musical?

"Once you catch this and see what the show's about, and how they've made it into a Broadway show, you'll see the genius involved in the creative team, and how they've put that together," Fortuna told WWJ Newsradio 950's Greg Bowman.

"It still involves you as a Broadway musical, but it has a great book behind it and a true story. So the combination of them both has actually made a very good musical," Fortuna said.

Fortuna said people love the show wherever they go.

"This is like our 30th or 31st city and ... in a lot of them -- several different cities -- people have said this was just a great experience. We had no idea; we didn't know what to expect. This was our favorite show so far out of all the Broadway series shows that have come here," he said.
