Take A Run And Support Literacy

Oakland (CBS Detroit)- Support literacy programs by participating in the third annual Run2Read event on June 8, 2013 at Stony Creek Metropark. It will feature 5K and 10K runs and a 5K walk along scenic park routes.

The course takes runners through some beautiful scenery including wooded trails, rolling hills, and diverse terrain. Organizers said runners find the variety exciting.

According to runner Maureen Gault, "Last year's race was a lot of fun. Runners and walkers alike, even tots in strollers, obviously were enjoying the beautiful trail and most of all, the opportunity to help raise funds for literacy in our community. This year, I am sure, will be a great event."

Run2Read is a joint fund-raiser for Oakland Literacy Council and Macomb Literacy Partners, with proceeds going for the support of free adult literacy education in the two counties.

Oakland Literacy Council President Judy Lindstrom explains, "We provide free individualized tutoring for students who are learning English as a second language as well as for English speakers who wish to improve their reading and writing skills."
