Verizon Wireless Reports Outage Repaired
DETROIT (WWJ) -- Verizon Wireless phone users were shut down in parts of the Detroit metro area Friday, but the cell phone carrier says the problem is now resolved.
Verizon Wireless spokeswoman Michelle Gilbert says voice service went down in Detroit and surrounding suburbs for about an hour. Data services still worked.
She said service was restored by about 2:30 p.m.
WWJ Newsradio 950 listeners reported problems reaching Verizon wireless phones in Detroit, South Lyon, Sterling Heights, Dearborn and Allen Park.
Gilbert said the problem was "a hardware issue at our switch," where Verizon's cell sites feed calls into the wired telephone network.
