Big Payment In Pointy Heel, Lost Eye Case

BAY CITY (AP) - The Michigan appeals court says a woman must pay $126,000 to another woman who lost an eye after being struck with a stiletto heel in Bay City.

The court this week agreed with a Bay County judge who said Rebekah Lloyd is on the hook for triple damages for injuries suffered by Michelle LeBlanc.

LeBlanc was walking home after drinking at a Bay City bar in August 2010. She said she was struck after making an offensive remark to Lloyd and another woman. Lloyd denied even being present, but a jury convicted her of misdemeanor assault.

LeBlanc lost an eye and had bills and other expenses of roughly $42,000. Under Michigan law, a judge can order triple damages if a crime leads to a serious impairment of a bodily function.
