Fragrance, Plants And People Fill Eastern Market On Flower Day

DETROIT (WWJ) - It was wall-to-wall flowers, plants and people Sunday at Eastern Market on the 47th annual Flower day.

Ivy Davis and his wife came from Lansing and loaded up a triple-decker wagon with their finds.

"Just a few hanging baskets for the porch and a few flats so we can make a pot ...," said Ivy.

Davis bought daisies, pansies and begonias and says he and his wife come to Flower Day every year.

Greg Black of Highland Township says comes every year. He bought several flats of flowers.

"I just purchased six flat of petunias for $50.00," said Black.

He says on top of the great bargains-- the food is a draw too. Their favorite fare? Whatever is on the grill outside Burt's.

Baley Sangrit of Eastpointe is making an herb garden and says her goal is to open her own bakery - cafe where I raise a lot of my own produce from my garden ...incorporating local farm goods and "stay away from stuff we have to ship."

There's always a good variety and nice bargains during the Flower Day at Eastern Market, Sangrit noted.
