Mayoral Candidates To Square-Off Before Black Business Owners Association

DETROIT (WWJ) - The race for mayor is heating up in the motor city.

The Booker T. Washington Business Association is hosting its annual Keys to Business Success this week and Detroit's mayoral candidates will face-off before an audience of black-owned business owners and journalists.

This year the organization has added a mayoral candidates forum to the mix. Bill Ross is president of the BTWBA:

"These business owners like to know exactly what is his position of the mayoral candidates relevent to supporting business initiatives and being what we would call a business friendly kind of mayor," said Ross.

"We can't ignore the fact that now there is a financial manager in place, and how do they envision themselves working with the financial manager?" he asked.

Six candidates were invited, five have confirmed to date.

The forum runs Tuesday 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the MGM Grand Hotel.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis will be one of the journalists asking questions of the candidates along with Tom Walsh of the Detroit Free Press and Bankole Thompson of the Michigan Chronicle.

The public is invited and can get tickets by calling (313) 875-4250.
