Elderly Man Dies When Mower Flips Into River

NORWAY TOWNSHIP (AP) - State police say a 71-year-old man has died after a riding lawn mower he was operating slid off a river bank edge and flipped in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Police say Melvin Miner was using the mower on his property along a river in Dickinson County's Norway Township on Wednesday when the mower overturned.

He was trapped under the mower in water that was about 2 feet deep. Police say Miner was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is being investigated as accidental.
