IndyCar's 'Swiss Miss' Gets Sick On Roller Coasters

Detroit (WWJ)- Simona De Silvestro, "The Swiss Miss", took WWJ's Kathryn Larson on a ride-along during preparation of the 2013 Belle Isle Grand Prix and answered questions about this year's track, her race routine and her pastimes.

"It's the motor city, so it's always fun to come here," she explained further that, "the track is awesome, the new corners they put in look really good."  De Silvestro is one of the few women in racing, but she says that it's difficult for anyone to reach the elite IndyCar racing level. "There's only like 27 drivers in IndyCar and there's so many drivers who want to go to a level like this," she said.

De Silvestro is excited to see how the doubleheader turns out. "It's hard to say how we're going to adapt to it. I think the biggest thing really is after the first race you've kind of got to refocus onto the second one. That's going to be a bit challenging, but it's the same thing for everyone and that's what counts."

With a profession involving extreme speed and thrills -- going to theme parks with Cedar Point and riding roller coasters has to be a favorite thing for all race drivers right? Not necessarily. "I actually get sick on roller coasters," but she is able to do IndyCar racing because "I'm in control of it I guess and it's a part of me," De Silvestro admitted laughingly.

The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix returns to the Motor City May 31-June 2, 2013.
