Police Search For Stolen Hospital Truck Used To Break Into Southfield Gun Range

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Police in Southfield are asking the public to be on the lookout for a stolen Henry Ford Hospital truck that was used to break into a gun range, where thieves stole nearly two dozen weapons.

Police say the incident happened on Wednesday, after the vehicle was stolen from the 21000 block of Melrose, off Lahser just north of 8 Mile Road.

The thieves then drove the van to the nearby Action Impact gun range on 8 Mile Road, where they rammed the vehicle into the heavily reinforced wall of the building, police said.

After a few attempts, the thieves were able to gain entry to the store. Once inside, police said they stole approximately 20 handguns and an unknown amount of ammunition.

Forat Kuza, an Action Impact instructor, told WXYZ he feels "completely violated."

"We support the law enforcement, the community, the citizens, everybody as a whole. It actually hurts my heart to see guns are now on the street illegally," he said.

Police are now asking the public keep their eyes open for a 2011 Ford Cutaway Van, mainly blue and white in color with Henry Ford Health System graphics, and license plate number "AB23040."

Anyone who has any information regarding this incident is asked to call Southfield police at 248-796-5500.
