Detroit Or Bust! Woman Charged At Border With Stash In Bra
DETROIT (WWJ) - A Canadian woman has been charged after officials say she was caught trying to sneak a lot of money in a unconventional way.
Fifty-one-year-old Moura El-Esmar and her 16-year-old daughter were detained at the Detroit-Windsor tunnel while heading to Detroit Metro Airport this weekend.
"During the pat down a bulky mass was discovered on the bra. A search revealed two bags sewn into the bra lining," read the complaint.
Customs and border officers found $59,000 dollars in total sewn into the bras of the mother and daughter. That amounts to nearly $73,000 in Canadian funds.
The daughter has not charged. The mother is also charged with making false statements to a federal agent.
