All-Clear Given After Suspected Gas Leak At Marathon Refinery

DETROIT (WWJ) - The all-clear has been given after a suspected gas leak at the Marathon Oil Refinery on Detroit's southwest side.

Spokesperson Angela Graves said the refinery was evacuated after an alarm went off Wednesday morning indicating a possible gas leak on the property, located on Fort Street near I-75.

Emergency crews quickly responded and after inspecting the property gave the all-clear for employees to return inside the building.

Graves said it's not yet clear what caused the alarm to sound or if a gas leak was actually detected.

No injuries were reported. An investigation is ongoing.

Officials at the refinery have been keeping a close eye on safety measures since an explosion occurred there in late April. Authorities say the explosion, which forced the evacuation of nearby neighborhoods, was caused by a tank that burned held wastewater produced in refining processes.
