PITTSFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - Police say an alert homeowner was able to help them catch a thief as he was breaking into vehicles.

Police in Pittsfield Township say they received a call around 4:25 a.m. Thursday from a residence in the 3700 block of Golfside Road about a larceny from auto in progress. The resident called 911 and reported that a man was trying to open the door on the vehicles parked in his driveway.

Officers responded to the area and apprehended the suspect, a 27-year-old male from Ypsilanti, near the caller's home. Suspected stolen property was also recovered.

The suspect, whose name was not released, is currently lodged at the Pittsfield Township Police Department pending further investigation and review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.
