Police ID Man Killed By Train In Macomb County

MACOMB TWP. (WWJ) - UPDATE: Police have identified the young man who was hit and killed by a train on Saturday as Wilfried Eugene Fuchs, 17, of Macomb Township.

The train operator stated that as the train was traveling southbound from 21 Mile he saw a subject walking near the tracks. As the train approached, the subject stepped in front of the train.

"This is a tragic event and my thoughts and prayers got out to Wilfried's family", say's Sheriff Wickersham.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the accident happened around 10 a.m. on the railroad tracks off Hall Road (M-59) between Gratiot Avenue and Groesbeck Highway.

"We had a train-pedestrian fatality that occurred in Macomb Township on the north side of Hall Road. Currently, that's under investigation and we're trying to determine all of the facts and what caused it," he said.

Wickersham said the accident is causing a traffic backup on M-59 because the crossing gates are down, blocking the road.

"The railroad crossing gates are still down though the train has cleared the roadway," he said.

Wickersham said there isn't a timetable as to how long the gates will be down.

Wickersham said more information will be released as it becomes available.
