Searchers Find Kayak, Man's Body

MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) - Authorities think they've found the body of a missing kayaker on the Clinton River.

Shelby Township Police say 47-year-old Oliver Dixon III parked his vehicle at the River Bends Park Boat Launch in Utica on Thursday and hadn't been seen since, according to his family. Late Sunday afternoon, searchers found his blue-and-white kayak underneath a log jam. Police say while positive identification is pending, the body found along with the kayak is believed to be that of Dixon's.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office marine division , police and family are searching for a Shelby Township man, who's been missing since he went kayaking on the Clinton River days ago.

Forty-seven year old Oliver Dixon III, a father of three has been missing since Thursday according to family.

Shelby Township Police Sergeant Scott Trumbo says the sheriff's office will decide how long that search will continue along the Clinton River for Dixon.

"He's 47-years-old, six-foot tall, 190 pounds with grey hair and a goatee. He was believed to be wearing a red life jacket with black shorts and he has a kayak that's blue on top and white on the bottom," said Sgt. Trumbo.

He says police, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, and family are searching for Dixon Sunday.

"They're the ones that are actively conducting a search of the river. It's also my understanding that the family is organizing volunteers to search whatever areas of the river that they are capable of doing," added Trumbo.

Trumbo says Dixon's vehicle was found near a canoe launch site near Ryan & 22 Mile Road.
