U.S. Rep Levin Blasts IRS For Scrutiny Of "Progressive" Tax-Exempt Groups

DETROIT (WWJ) -  The IRS has revealed that it also scrutinized the tax-exempt status of groups with "progressive" in their names.

Michigan Democrat and U.S. Representative Sander Levin is asking the Treasury Department's inspector general to explain why that information was not previously disclosed.

"They failed to include it, they failed to discuss it in hearings that were held when it was totally relevent to the subject matter," Levin told WWJ. "When asked specifically about whether liberal groups were included the IT failed to acknowledge that."

No comment from IRS officials.
