Royal Oak Residents Warned To Lock Doors After Uptick In Burglaries

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Police in Royal Oak are warning residents to lock their house and car doors after a rash of burglaries in the city.

In the past week alone, police say there's been nearly a dozen reports of burglaries. In nearly every instance, police say the crook targets an unlocked car and pilfers through its contents, taking anything of value.

Below is a list of recent robberies in the city:

  • 4300 block of Samoset, July 5: A man reported someone stole a Toro snow thrower and a Toro lawn mower from his unlocked detached garage.
  • 2500 block of N. Connecticut, July 7: A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole a portable GPS unit.
  • 2800 block of N. Connecticut, July 7: A woman reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle looking for items to steal. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.
  • 4800 block of Woodland, July 8: A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his wallet.
  • 4800 block of Woodland, July 8: A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole an Acer laptop computer and an EVO HD camcorder.
  • 2400 block of N. Wilson, July 8: A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole loose change, two cell phone chargers and miscellaneous paperwork.
  • 300 block of N. Kenwood, July 10: A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole two toolboxes containing miscellaneous tools.
  • 32410 Woodward (Hermz), July 10: The business reported someone pried open the rear door of the business and stole an undisclosed amount of currency and miscellaneous dresses.
