Detroit MI-SBTDC Launches Online Training

DETROIT (WWJ) -- The Detroit Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center Service Center will debut an Online Training Program to strengthen the level of readiness for clients seeking one-on-one consulting with a business consultant.

Clients who are not in business will be required to attend the "Venture Start: Starting A Business Training" workshop at the Detroit SBTDC location. As part of the workshop. clients will be given an overview of the process and a mini-business plan template. The completed mini-business plan template will be used to access one-on-one consulting with a counselor.

Counseling begins after the client has taken three of the four remaining Venture Start workshops via a webinars that last approximately one hour. The four workshop options include writing a business plan, financial management, marketing your business and business legal structure.

Clients will have the opportunity to do all of the required trainings within the course of one month. Clients will use the knowledge gained from these workshops to complete the mini business plan template, which will be assessed by MI-SBTDC counselors.

"The purpose of the Online Training Program is to connect with a wider client base," said Wendy Thomas, regional director of the SBTDC Detroit office. "And we believe by offering a portion off the training program online it will be more convenient to our clients."

The MI-SBTDC is a statewide business assistance program that provides no-cost one-on-one counseling, training, and research support for Michigan small businesses. It works with more than 14,500 businesses a year, with 56 percent being existing businesses, with many being growing companies that employ more than 10 employees.

The Southeast Michigan region is headquartered at the Eastern Michigan University Livonia campus and serves Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties with full service locations at the MI-SBTDC Detroit Service Center, the Schoolcraft College Business Development Center in Livonia, the Oakland County Business Center in Waterford and the Macomb County SBTDC Service Center at the Velocity Collaboration Center in Sterling Heights.
