Spanking Your Child: Should It Be Illegal?

This is a debate that isn't going away any time soon: Spanking your children.

Some parents view spanking as a completely acceptable form of discipline, while others think it's never appropriate to use violence on children.

In South Africa, a non-governmental organization is working with government leaders to draft a bill that, if passed, would outlaw spanking and other forms of "corporal punishment" in the home. Under the proposed law, a parent could be charged with assault if they used a flat hand on a child's bottom.

The law has some of us in the studio shaking our heads. Some of us were spanked as kids and don't think there's anything wrong with a little "tough love," but others say they could never imaging placing a hand on their little one.

Were you spanked as a child? Have you opted not to spank your own kids? Do you feel strongly one way or the other?
