Juried Fine Art Show Draws Hundreds Of Artists To Vie For Arts, Beats & Eats Space

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - New and old favorites will be among the more than 150 local and national music acts will be taking the stage in Royal Oak over the Labor Day weekend.

Jonathan Witz is producer of the 16th annual Arts, Beats & Eats festival and he tells WWJ's Pat Sweeting about some of the highlights in Royal Oak.

Smash Mouth is performing, Eddie Money is performing at this years festival, Montgomery Gentry , Star Ship, alternative sensation Gusters, Soul Asylum - Rockers, Puddle of Mudd and MC Hammer closes it all out on Labor Day so it's going to be a fabulous line-up.

The festival has maintained its ranking among the top 50 fine arts shows in the US.  (PHOTOS)

David Lochner, president of First Merit Bank, one of the presenting sponsors, says this year's show represents the highest number of local artists.

"There was an intensive juried competition this year with more than 500 artists -- vying for only 145 spaces among 14 different mediums," said Lochner. "Including ceramics, drawing, glass, jewelry, metal, painting, photography, sculpture and more."

Artists from 26 states, Canada and Mexico competed for a spot in the show and will vie for $7,500 in cash awards through a juried competition.

An over 50 local restaurants will be serving up mouth-watering food.
