2 Women Assaulted At Home, Suspects At Large

MONROE TWP. (WWJ) - A manhunt is underway in Monroe County, after sheriff's officials say two women were terrorized in their own homes overnight.

Authorities say it all began, just after midnight Wednesday when the suspects broke in to a woman's home on 10th Street in Monroe Township.

Monroe County Sheriff officials said the 58-year-old home owner was tied up with a belt and an extension cord while three men apparently stole money from her safe.

About an hour later, a 39-year-old woman was heard screaming from her apartment on Cedar Creek Drive in nearby Frenchtown Township. She told deputies as many as three men kicked in her back door and then held a gun and a knife to her.

Officials talking to WWJ Newsradio 950 Thursday morning said an investigation is underway, and they hope to release more information shortly.

There was no immediate word as to the condition of the victims.

Anyone with information about these crimes are asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Department.
