Man Looking For Freshwater Clams Finds Skull

CLYDE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a man found a human skull while wading in a Michigan creek in search of freshwater clams.

The St. Clair County sheriff's department says the Port Huron man was in Mill Creek in Clyde Township on Thursday — in the Beard Hills State Game Area — when he reached under a log in the water and felt "something unusual."

That's when he pulled up the skull.

Sheriff's official said the man placed the skull on the shore and he and his companions immediately went back to their vehicle to call authorities.

A Sheriff's Department dive team searched the area and found some other bones in water that was three to four feet deep.

The skull and bones were turned over to the Macomb County Medical Examiner for examination.

The find, about 55 miles northeast of Detroit, is under investigation.
